Draft Scope/Description:

1.1 General

This Technical Specification (TS) defines the method, requirements, and considerations for estimating coincidence peak demand impacts from energy impact using load shape analysis and Peak-to-Energy Factors (PEFs). It applies to residential, commercial, and industrial sectors where the load shapes 1) can represent the relationship between energy and peak demand impact; or 2) can represent the time- differentiated energy savings within Canadian electrical systems.

1.2 Inclusions

This standard applies to:

1.2.1 Technology based measures

·    Lighting

·    Heating Ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)

·    Water heating

·    Refrigeration

·    Building envelope

·    Major electric appliances

·    Industrial end-uses

1.2.2 Behavioural based measures

·    Behavioural measures according to CSA / ANSI C555

1.2.3 Mixed of technology and behavioural based measures

·    Energy management improvements.

·    Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Note: See also Annex B

1.3 Exclusions

This standard does not apply to:

·    Non-electrical energy saving measures

·    Interventions intended primarily to temporarily reduce / shift loads

o  Demand response programs (such as behavioural change)

o  Dynamic control programs (such as connected equipment)

o  Load curtailment or interruptible end-uses

·    Project based demand estimation through measurement and verification based on IPMVP methodology

·    Customer billing demand impact estimation

Note: See also Annex B

1.4 Terminology

In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate explanatory or informative material from the text.

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.

1.5 Units of measurement

The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
