This Part 1 Standard specifies general requirements for certain types of products. These requirements can also be applied to specific end-use products when referenced explicitly in the relevant product standard. Individual product standards may supplement, modify, or omit general rules in Part 1 to establish the specific requirements for each product type.

This standard applies to the safety of equipment designed and constructed for installation and use in compliance with CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Part I.

It also includes controls designed to manage (monitor and/or control) the energy consumption of components and systems (load management) or power sources.
